Housing deposits jump 10-fold in 20 years

The size of the deposit you need to put down to make a property purchase has shot up in recent years, with new research from First Direct showing that the average housing deposit has jumped from £6,793 in 1990 to close to £66,000 today.

That's a near 10-fold increase in just over 20 years. What's more, household incomes have only doubled during the same period, making life that much harder for today's buyers.
