Mom Puts Golden Retriever’s ‘Good Boy’ Skills to the Test in the Cutest Way

As parents, sometimes we put our kids in situations just to test things out and see how they'll respond. Same goes with our pets, as was the case with Sir Theo, a Golden Retriever whose mom decided to test his 'good boy' skills by tempting him with his favorite thing: food.

Theo's mom shared the video of the test she gave him in mid-April. She was going to refill Theo's food bowl and had an idea - she decided to leave the whole container full of food out to see how he'd react to it. Would he go hog wild and eat as much as he could? Would he sneak a few bites? Watch and see just how strong Theo's self-control is.

I love the Pink Panther music - it's the perfect song to accompany the scene! I know our puppy totally would've eaten all of it and made herself sick, and I wasn't the only one who thought so. A fan of Sir Theo named @Lizzie got almost 3 thousand likes when she shared, "My Labrador Retriever would have eaten the whole container. Including the container." and @kathyanderson52 added, "Oh heck no! My 18-month Golden Retriever would have it gone in 60 seconds!! Then drag the plastic container around smashing into everything!" Another commenter said, "He’s like this is a trap!"

Golden Retrievers Love to Eat

Like most dogs, Goldens love to eat. It looks like Theo is used to eating dog food which is a good thing. But as a pet parent, if you make the mistake of introducing your dog to people food, you'll likely find them sitting and waiting for you to share anytime you eat! Our puppy eats dog food 95 percent of the time. But there are human foods that dogs can eat as an occasional treat like beef and chicken, some veggies and fruits, eggs, salmon, tuna, mackerel, oatmeal, pasta, rice, Greek yogurt, and pork.

Did you know that carrots are a great all natural treat dogs love and that they're also good for their teeth? Carrots can be used as an alternative to dental chews (although my dog would never give up her favorite Minties!) I like giving her carrots because they are affordable and the whole thing (including the green tops) can be eaten. Cheese and peanut butter are other dog favorites but should be given in moderation since they are high in fat.

There are also human foods that you should never give to your dog. Raisins, chocolate, onions, leeks, and garlic are all dangerous to dogs and can cause health issues. If you are unsure if you can feed your dog a particular food, check with your vet or other animal professional before feeding it to them. A quick call is worth the time since it's always better to be safe than sorry.
