Jonathan Gibson has become the youngest person to ever win Mastermind.

The 24-year-old student from Glasgow won by four points in the Grand Final of the BBC quiz show having scored a perfect 11/1 in his specialist subject; comedy song writing partnership Flanders and Swann.

Gibson, who's studying a PhD in Modern History at the University of St Andrews, had also chosen Agatha Christie’s Poirot as a specialist subject as well as William Pitt the Younger in previous heats.

The final also marked the last appearance of John Humphrys as host after 18 years.

He'll be replaced by BBC new journalist Clive Myrie in the next series which is due to start filming in July before airing later in the year.

"Mastermind with Magnus Magnusson formed the backdrop to my youth, and now to be at the helm is a dream come true. I'm excited and can't wait to get stuck in."

BBC entertainment director Kate Phillips said: "Clive will be a superb host, witty, wise and with a wicked sense of humour, he's a consummate interrogator who also understands the fear involved when facing a barrage of questions in the spotlight."
