The 51-year-old TV presenter and finance expert joined Gibson to host This Morning on Monday, 4 February. It is the last week of rotating guest presenting helming the show before new permanent co-hosts Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley make their official start together.

Lewis told viewers: "Thank you very much for having me on the show today. This isn't an audition, I've got a day job. To the producers - thanks for having me. And to anybody watching I hope you enjoy today and if you don't, don't worry because it's a one off. So you don't need to tell me on social media if you didn't enjoy it, I don't need to know."

Lewis is very active on social media and often uses his platform to read and respond to financial questions from fans, as well as warn his followers about money making scams.

Gibson asked him why he had said yes. Lewis replied: "It's a bit of a bucket list thing. I've been on the show for so long, I've been a part of the family here. And I've presented Good Moring Britain and I've got my own show. I just think to present This Morning, it's This Morning! So after today..." Gibson told him: "We've done it. We've done it together." Lewis added: "It's going tot be fun."

Some viewers were already expressing their dislike of Lewis on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter.

One moaned: "Ah ffs, I’m already in a bad mood and they’re foisting Martin Lewis as a presenter on #ThisMorning at me." Another exclaimed: "@thismorning MARTIN LEWIS! what a way to spoil my Monday #thismorning." And another complained: "You know it's going to be a very slow show when the main segment they're promoting is who the presenter is #ThisMorning."

But other viewers were delighted.

And many were pleased to see Lewis debating the budget with contributor and from Conservative MP Gyles Brandreth as they went through the newspaper headlines of the day.

One said: "Martin Lewis totally bossing this conversation on the budget. Love him. #ThisMorning." And another shared: "Martin talking sense, Gyles rattled. #thismorning."

Other viewers were tired of seeing random guest presenters host the show, and feel ready for some consistency.

One tweeted: "Tomorrow’s lineup: Mr Blobby and someone who once played a patient in Doctors. #ThisMorning." Another wrote: "This is be the last week that #ThisMorning will use nonsensical presenters before Ben and Cat make their debut as permanent presenters next week." And a third posted: "The viewers should’ve been allowed to vote for their favourite presenters. Love it when @josiestweet and Craig or @MartinSLewis present #thismorning Love Tim @TC_MBE."

Guest hosts including Gibson, Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary have taken a turn at hosting This Morning, since Holly Willoughby quit the show in October 2023 following an alleged kidnapping plot. Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley's start date as the official new hosts of This Morning has been confirmed as Monday 11 March.

Lewis confessed he was feeling short, standing next to Gibson at the start of the show. He said: "We've been in meetings all morning and I've just stood next to you and realised how tall you are, why did nobody give me heels?" Gibson admitted: "Nobody realises how tall I am.. I'm 177 cm, about 5ft 10in. But with heels I'm a lot taller, so really in real life you are 6ft." Lewis added: "6ft 1in."

This Morning airs on ITV at 10am on weekdays.
