Man’s Trick for Getting His Labrador to Eat Her Veggies Is Genius
It's not often I stumble across a TikTok hack for an animal that could also potentially work on kids, but this one that The Piper Foundation posted to Instagram at the end of June is one of them! Piper is a Labrador Retriever who loves to eat human food...as long as they aren't vegetables. Her dad figured out a genius way to get her to eat her broccoli, and I think it just might work on little kids too!
The video (check it out on Instagram) starts with the Lab blindfolded and sitting on the couch. Dad has her food bowl in front of her and it's full of broccoli. He also has a piece of chicken that she definitely wants to eat. He lets Piper smell it, and then before she takes a bite, he swaps the chicken for a piece of broccoli!
It took a few bites before Piper the bamboozled adorable Lab realized something was up and she realized she was being 'Punked'. Her reaction was too funny! Commenters thought so, too. One said, "If doggo could talk- “cuss word” “more cussing” Translation: Me will pee on pillow." @daphnelivemusic added, "The farts this dog will release after eating broccoli, are not even worth! LOL!"

Can Dogs Have Broccoli?
You can definitely give your dog broccoli, but it doesn't necessarily mean you should. Just like for humans, broccoli is a healthy food that is high in fiber and vitamin C, and bonus points for being low in fat. It can be eaten raw or cooked, but if you cook it, don't cook it using seasonings or oil and instead boil or blanch it. That being said, the AKC recommends only giving broccoli to your pup as an occasional treat, "The florets of this vegetable contain isothiocyanates, which can cause mild-to-potentially-severe gastric irritation in some dogs." That's why so many commenters said to just stay away from giving it to your dog!
The AKC goes on to share this from a veterinarian, "Broccoli is considered safe in dogs if the total amount ingested is less than 10% of their daily intake; more than 25% is considered toxic.” If you choose to give it to your pup, do so only in very small qualities.
If you do decide to give it to your fur baby, make sure to cute it up since the broccoli stalks can get stuck if your dog inhales it quickly and without chewing (like most dogs do). By cutting it up into bite-size chunks, you greatly lower their chances of choking. Also keep an eye on your pup while it eats to make sure there's no issues with swallowing the pieces. Better to be safe than sorry.
