Man 'known to victim' charged with stabbing woman in broad daylight city centre attack

A man has been charged with attempted murder after a woman was stabbed in broad daylight in Birmingham city centre.

Asim Abdulrasul, 46, is accused of attacking a 26-year-old who was injured at around 9.50am on Tuesday morning on Temple Row outside the Great Western Arcade.

The pair are known to each other, police said.

The woman was taken to hospital but has since been discharged.

Abdulrasul, from Coventry, has also been charged possessing a knife in public.

He has been remanded into police custody and will appear before Birmingham Magistrates Court on Thursday.

A statement from West Midlands Police said: "We’d like to thank members of the public who bravely intervened and who we believe undoubtedly prevented her from suffering more serious injuries."
