Man charged with double-stabbing after bystander, 20, is killed and pensioner left in hospital

A man has been charged with murder and attempted murder after two people were stabbed in west London.

Norris Henry, 37, was charged with the murder of 20-year-old Ali Abucar Ali on Sunday.

He was also charged with the attempted murder of an 82-year-old woman - named locally as Betty Walsh.

Police were called to Albany Parade in Brentford at around 7.50pm on Friday and found a man and woman suffering from stab injuries.

Ali was pronounced dead at the scene.

Betty was found with stab wounds and taken to hospital and her condition was described as serious but not life-threatening.

According to the Mirror, Walsh was punched to the floor as she went to get a kebab before being stabbed, and the attacker then fatally stabbed the young man who tried to help her.

Betty’s family have said she is no longer on the "critical" list after undergoing a kidney operation.

But they added it was too early to say when she will be allowed to leave St Mary's Hospital in Paddington but revealed she had asked about England's 5-0 victory over Albania.

Her eldest daughter Bridget, 60, said: "After her operation she was able to talk to us on the phone and was asking about the football score this morning.”

She added: "We just want to thank the police and all the neighbours who helped our mum. They were there instantly and kept us informed. They are heroes.

"We are praying our mum makes a full and speedy recovery."

Ali was described as a hardworking lad who had recently won a scholarship.

His mother is said to have rushed to comfort Betty's family before receiving the devastating news from police her son had been killed.

Betty, affectionately known as 'Betty Boo' to all her friends, has lived in Brentford all her adult life and was a barmaid at four local pubs before she retired.

She was described as a "rock" for her three sons and three daughters after her husband died more than 30 years ago.

Now she also has 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and a great great-granddaughter.

Henry, of Brook Road South, Brentford, will appear in custody at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
