If you ever want to help a stray mama cat and her babies, unless you find them in a Walmart or at another store there are certain steps you should take!

What To Do If You Find a Mama Cat and Her Babies

You should first observe from a distance, because if the cat is feral she may run off and leave her babies if you approach her.

If mama seems friendly, in need of help, or is she leaves the babies and you can sneak close by, you can provide her with a safe and warm place to keep them, either a cardboard box or a storage bin with no lid, and towels or blankets. You can also leave food and water. If the cat is in a dangerous spot like near a road you can place the shelter away from it but within her line of vision in hopes mama will relocate her babies there.

You should ask your neighbors and on social media if anyone has lost their cat because sometimes mom cats will stray from home to give birth in privacy.

The Humane Society suggests that it’s never too soon to start contacting local rescue groups and shelters about foster care, low-cost spay/neuter and other veterinary resources, and trap-neuter-return programs in your region. Check out our tips for identifying animal welfare organizations and other resources in your region.

If the mom cat or babies seem sick or injured, place them in a carrier and take them to the vet or your local animal rescue group.

We are so glad this sweet cat ended up at this wonderful rescue to help her with her kittens! I'm sure they will all be healthy and safe now, and hopefully will all get spayed or neutered when they are ready and go to wonderful homes.
