Lonely Shepherd Puppy in Los Angeles Shelter Just Wants Someone to Love Him

Many people claim that shelter animals are all older pets from the same few breeds, but in reality, rescue animals come in all shapes and sizes. In the springtime especially, you can find tons of puppies and kittens at shelters, though small breed animals of all ages find themselves in need no matter the time of year. Whether you're looking to adopt an active family dog or a lazy, old couch potato, a visit or two to your local shelter could prove to be successful.

For example, look no further than the affectionate, gentle Shepherd puppy patiently waiting at the Riverside Animal Shelter in Southern California. He's just a baby and is as sweet as can be, but the few minutes of attention he can get from shelter volunteers each day isn't nearly enough.

On April 4, this pup's shelter buddies put together a TikTok video to help his forever person find him. Could that person be you?

Aww! This poor baby looks so relieved and grateful to see someone stopping by the animal shelter to say hello. The way he looked at his new friend out of the corner of his eye practically broke my heart, but I can only imagine how the person filming this video was feeling, especially as they walked away.

This unnamed shelter dog is about 11 months old, weighs 50 pounds, and is as gentle as can be. He lived on the streets before finding himself at the Riverside Animal Shelter, and now he's been waiting in a kennel for two long weeks. Everyone's fingers are crossed that he's not waiting much longer!

The good news is that this soon-to-be rescue dog has earned himself so many TikTok fans already. It's only a matter of time before one of those viewers comes to the shelter to adopt him, and when they do,  they're going to have so many people cheering for them.

Helping Your New Puppy Adjust

Bringing home a new puppy can be one of the most exciting things you'll ever do in life, whether that puppy is 10 weeks old or 11 months old like this sweet boy. But that doesn't mean it's going to be easy! You'll need to dedicate lots of time to training your puppy, bonding with them, and cleaning up after them, but it's totally normal if your first few weeks together are rather rocky. After all, everyone has to adjust!

If you're adopting an older puppy like this shelter sweetheart, you can expect to work on routines and good habits such as obedience training and puppy potty training. It will take time for them to learn what your expectations are, but as they learn and grow up, you'll be far too busy enjoying your time together.
