Where to go in August
  • On the west coast of Sweden, the warmest weather can be found from mid-June to mid-August. The majority of visitors head to the stunning coastline in June and July, which means by August the numbers and prices are falling but the weather is still beautiful. Temperatures in Sweden in August range between 16 and 26 degrees. 
  • Each January, the wildebeest migration begins in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area of Tanzania. The herds then arrive in Kenya between late July to mid-August where they then remain for the rest of the dry season. This famous spectacle is one of the most impressive sights you can see while visiting Kenya, making August the perfect time to go. Temperatures are usually between 23 and 28 degrees in August. 
  • From June to September Singapore hosts the International Festival of the Arts with a range of theatre, music and dance performances. The Hungry Ghost Festival also takes place in August and is a traditional holiday used to honour the dead. Visitors can expect to see singers, dancers and entertainers performing on temporary stages, but be sure not to sit in the front row - they're reserved for the ghosts! 
  • Each year at beginning of August, Rockland hosts the Maine Lobster Festival. The region is known for its high standard of seafood and this five day festival is a chance to sample some of the delicious marine life that lives along the coastline. 
  • Those visiting during August will have a chance to see the famous Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the world's largest arts festival. There's a wide range of performing arts acts including theatre, dance, music and comedy, with people of all ages taking part and attending. 
  • With minimum temperatures of 23 degrees and highs of 31 degrees, sunshine is pretty much guaranteed when visiting Bali in August. Although monsoon season generally spikes in July and August, Bali is lucky enough to avoid the downpour and the weather remains mostly dry.  
  • While summer storms are common in July and August, they come in short, sharp bursts and so are unlikely to affect your plans. Cycling holidays are popular in the area and the Badische Weinstrasse is a 160km-long route that works its way through the foothills of the Black Forest, travelling through the vineyards of the Baden region. Temperatures vary between 18 and 30 degrees throughout August. 

  • With 11 hours of sunshine a day in August, Croatia has to be top of the list for cheapEuropean sun holidays. The country has become a favourite tourist destination among Brits in recent years, but with miles of coastline, you'll always be able to escape the crowds. During August you can expect highs of 29 degrees. 
  • Take a trip to the west coast of the USA and make the most of LA's warm days and balmy nights in August. Spend the day exploring the many lovely beaches before taking in a drive-in movie or watching an outdoor music and theatre event in the evening. The 'Grunion Run' is also popular with locals and visitors when the silver grunion fish make their periodic appearance on the shoreline. 
  • Despite Vietnam being affected by the rainy season between April and September, the coastal strip around Nha Trang in the south is largely unaffected making it the one of the best areas of Vietnam to visit at this time of year. Even when Nha Trang is subjected to showers, they are usually light and short-lived with an average temperature of around 29 degrees in August. 
  • August proves to be one of the best times of year to visit Bulgaria's capital city as the crowds of high summer disappear and the high temperatures lower to the mid-20s. Bulgaria boasts some of the world's finest opera singers and Sofia has a vibrant culture including plenty of theatre, music and dance performances that can be enjoyed by visitors from all over the world. 
  • With temperatures ranging between 10 and 20 degrees during the summer period, the coast county of Cornwall is one of the warmer areas of the UK during August. The county also has a lot to offer for visitors with events such as the Falmouth Week sailing regatta which sees over 200 yachts sailing over the eight day period. 
  • Athens  tends to empty in August as locals and visitors alike flock to the Greek islands. Stroll through the beautiful historic city and take in the ancient monuments such as The Parthenon and The Acropolis. Temperatures in August range between 25 and 35 degrees, so be sure to book a hotel room with air conditioning! 

  • Ljubljana boasts warm weather and light rain during August but with the cars restricted to the city centre, visitors can enjoy scenic walks along the embankment or take a trip up to Ljubljana Castle which will grant you stunning panoramic views of the whole region. Temperatures range between 20 and 30 degrees during August. 
  • August and September are traditionally considered the 'low season' in Punta Cana where hotels will offer cheap deals and low rates. The weather in the Dominican Republic remains balmy all year round and the temperature only drops to 20 degrees in winter. Those visiting in August can expect highs of 30 degrees and lows of 25 degrees.
