  • In a report by the World Economic Forum, African country Burkina Faso came 10th out of 140 countries for its friendliness and smiles. The locals were given a score of 6.61 out of 7 for their welcoming attitude.
  • With its famous social life it's no wonder Ireland received a score of 6.62 out of 7 for its friendliness towards foreigners.
  • The hospitable people of Bosnia and Herzegovina received a score of 6.63 out of 7. Don't be surprised if you're greeted with kisses when visiting and it's custom to kiss three times on alternating cheeks.
  • Think Portugal is home to one of the friendliest nations in Europe? It came 7th and received a score of 6.65 out of 7.
  • Senegal and its friendly people received a score of 6.65 out of 7 in the report.
  • Austrians are known to be polite and helpful to visitors, while treating them well. The country's kindness hasn't gone unnoticed and it ranked 5th in the report, receiving a score of 6.65 out of 7 for its friendliness.
  • Macedonia and its welcoming locals received a score of 6.67 out of 7 for being friendly towards tourists.
  • Morocco ranked third by the World Economic Forum for the population's attitude towards foreign visitors, receiving a score of 6.7 out of 7 for its friendliness.
  • It may not have topped the World Economic Forum's list of most welcoming nations but a 2011 HSBC Expat Explorers survey named New Zealand the friendliest country on earth, with expats rating it for how easy it is to befriend locals, fit into a new culture and learn the language. It received a score of 6.82 out of 7 for its friendliness to foreigners by the World Economics Forum.
  • It may have an ice-cold climate but visitors to Iceland's can expect a warm welcome from its 321,000 residents, who were named the friendliest in the world in a report by the World Economic Forum. It received a score of 6.83 out of 7.
