  • Filmed in and around Cardiff, Doctor Who makes use of locations like the Millennium Stadium, Llandaff Villae, Queen's Arcade Shopping Centre and Wales Millennium Centre. If you're lucky you may catch a glimpse of the Doctor or the Tardis during filming on your trip to the Welsh capital.   • The stars of the reality TV series are often seen in the hottest haunts of Chelsea. Super-stylish restaurant Bluebird, trendy gastro pub The Jam Tree and posh cocktail bar JuJu, all on Chelsea's King's Road, are where you might spot Caggie, Gabriella or Millie flicking their perfectly coiffed hair.   • TV chef Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall's show River Cottage has seen the location of the pretty cottage grow in popularity among daytrippers over the years. The cottage, located in the grounds of Slape Manor in Netherbury, Dorset, was originally a game-keeper's lodge and features in the Channel 4 series, where Hugh cooks using home-grown ingredients. Saga offers a River Cottage Experience, where you can spend a day at River Cottage learning how to use locally-sourced and home-grown ingredients in your cooking and create dishes with the help of host Steve Lamb.

  • Long-running murder mystery series Midsomer Murders is set in the finest British countryside spread across South Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire. One of the filming locations is the Chilterns in South Oxfordshire, which is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, where Barnaby wanders its foothills. It's just a short trip from London and there are routes here linking Midsomer Murders locations, plus village pubs and national cycle ways.

  • Filmed predominantly on the Jurassic Coast at West Bay in Dorset, with the town of Clevedon, just outside Bristol, doubling as the fictional town of Broadchurch, this detective series stars Olivia Colman and David Tennant. The twists and turns in the drama sees Colman and Tennant track down the killer of a schoolboy found dead on a beach. Much of the series is shot at West Bay, while Portishead and Clevedon were used as the fictional Dorset town. Some scenes were filmed at the Bowlish Hotel in Shepton Mallet, as well as the Western Daily Press offices in Bristol.

  • Spray tans, manicures and vajazzling - Essex is the place to visit if you fancy rubbing shoulders with the cast of TOWIE. Head to the Sugar Hut nightclub in Brentwood, owned by cast member and sugar daddy Mick Norcross, shop for a posh frock at sisters Sam and Billie Faiers' shop Minnie's Boutique in Brentwood and stop for some lunchtime gossip at quintessentially English pub The King William IV in Chigwell, where much of the TOWIE action takes place and a good spot to get a super-chilled draft beer and traditional beer food.

  • Well-loved sitcom Gavin and Stacey follows the long-distance relationship between Gavin from Billericay in Essex and Stacey from Barry Island in the Vale of Glamorgan. The seaside resort has seen a rise in visitors because of the TV show, with fans visiting its real-life locations. Dave's Coaches runs an Official Gavin and Stacey Tour from April to October, taking in the home of Stacey, the arcade where Nessa works, the church where she nearly marries Dave and more.

  • Last of the Summer Wine was filmed on location in Holmfirth, West Yorkshire. Visit Sid's Cafe and Nora Batty's Steps in the small town, and while you're at it, admire the spectacular Holme Valley, which surrounds Holmfirth. During the day, Sid's Cafe showcases the Summer Wine Exhibition and TV location tour, giving you the chance to visit some of the popular locations featured in the series, like the White Horse Pub. Be sure to stop for a break at the Wrinkled Stocking Tea Room, named after the famous stockings worn by Nora Batty. Here you can enjoy home-baked food and a good cuppa!

  • The village of Dibley in Oxfordshire is actually set in Turville in Buckinghamshire, where you'll find Reverend Geraldine Granger's vicarage (two cottages in Turville were used and made to look like one building) and the beautiful St Mary The Virgin Church, which is the St Barnabus of Dibley in the comedy. Be sure to stop for a pint at the black and white timbered Bull and Butcher Pub and admire the pretty cottages that date back to the 16th century.

  • Well, it's actually North Gower Street, around half a mile from Baker Street, that's used as a setting for BBC series Sherlock. Producers transformed the flat above Speedy's Sandwich Bar in the street into detective Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson's home 221B Baker Street. Owner Chris Georgiou said that when the series started his tiny sandwich shop attracted lots of fans. The real Baker Street is worth a visit too if you're a Sherlock Holmes fan as there's a museum dedicated to the fictional detective located at... 221B Baker Street!

  • The fishing village of Port Isaac in North Cornwall was used as the set for Doc Martin starring Martin Clunes. The series sees the tactless surgeon upsetting the villagers in fictional Port Wenn. While village scenes were shot in pretty Port Isaac, most interior scenes were filmed in a converted barn at a local farm. In Port Isaac you'll find great restaurants, rock pools and live music from local artists on the Platt.
