Guinness World Records 2014: Travel records
  • Ever heard of a sick bag collector? Niek Vermeulen, from the Netherlands, has 6,290 airline sickness bags from 1,191 different airlines from almost 200 countries, which he has accumulated since the 1970s.
  • How's this for speed? The fastest time to enter a zipped suitcase is 5.43 seconds achieved by Leslie Tipton, from the USA, on 14 September 2009 in New York, USA on the LIVE! with Regis & Kelly show.

  • The world's largest hotel suite is the Royal Suite at the Grand Hills Hotel & Spa located in Broummana, Lebanon which measures a whopping 4,131 square metres.
     The suite is comprised of six floors and is surrounded by private gardens and swimming pools, none of which are included in the measurements for this record.
  • Hotel fan Jean-François Vernetti, from Switzerland, has collected 11,111 different 'Do Not Disturb' signs from hotels in 189 countries across the world since 1985.
  • The tallest water slide in the world is Kilimanjaro at Águas Quentes Country Club in Barra do Piraí, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, which is 49.9m (163ft 9in) high and was constructed in 2002.

  • The youngest person to travel all seven continents is Vaidehi Thirrupathy, from the UK, who completed her journey aged 205 days on 26 November 2008 in Antarctica.

  • Wow! Kevin Fast, from Canada, pulled a CC-177 Globemaster III, weighing 188.83 tonnes (416,299 lbs), a distance of 8.8m (28ft, 10.46in) at the Canadian Forces Base in Trenton, Ontario on 17 September 2009. He took 1 minute 16 seconds to pull the aircraft.
  • The most people applying moisturiser is 1,068 and was achieved by Alberto Pazzaglia, from Italy, and The European Shoe Machinery Co. Ltd (UK) in San Mauro Mare, Emilia Romagna on 9 Aug 2009. We've never seen so much sun cream!
  • The largest beach towel measured 87.14 m (285ft 10in) in length and 25.20m (82ft 8in) in width and was manufactured by Fateka S.L. on behalf of Compañía Cervecera de Canarias (Tropical brand). That's a lot of dry beachgoers! The towel was displayed at Playa de las Canteras in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria, Spain, on 5 June 2010.
  • Susi Bemsel and Daniel Snaider, both from Germany, completed the longest journey by autorikshaw between 8 February and 17 December 2005. The pair's journey was 37,410km (23,245 miles) and was from Bangkok, Thailand to Eichstätt, Germany.
     Their travel took them through Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Japan, Russia, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Iran, Turkey, Syria, Jordan, Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Italy, France, Spain and Germany.
  • The J W Marriott Marquis Dubai in UAE, formerly known as Emirates Park Towers Hotel & Spa, is the tallest hotel, standing at 355.35m (1,165.84ft) from ground level to the top of its mast. The hotel consists of two 77-floor twin towers entirely occupied by the hotel. The JW Marriott Marquis Dubai Tower 1 has 806 rooms and the two top floors are occupied by Vault, one of the hotel’s 15 lounge bars and restaurants. The building’s spire is 49.60m tall and Tower 2 is set to open by 2015.

  • Not a one-piece in sight! The largest bikini parade ever was achieved by 1,085 participants at an event organized by Huludao Municipal Government in Huludao City, China on 19 August 2012. We wonder if it was the largest ever floral hat parade too!
