Copenhagen: Best things to see and do
  • The joys of smørrebrød are just waiting to be discovered in Copenhagen - but to get the best, you need to follow the locals. Momondo Places recommends Øl og Brød on Viktoriagade for its laid-back atmosphere, great array of beers and delectable and creative menu. Who knew you could do so much with an open sarni?
  • A Netto Boat tour of Nyhavn and the canals of Copenhagen is one of the city's must-dos. At around 40 Kroner (less than £4) it's a relaxing and inexpensive way to take in the city's highlights without all the traipsing - so it's perfect if you've got children. The tour begins at the Church of Holmen, just opposite the Stock Exchange. Sit back and let the tour guide do the rest as you float around taking in the sights, which include the iconic Little Mermaid. Visit havnerundfart.dk for info.
  • This iconic seventeenth century waterfront is a wonderful place to stroll around or sit in the sunshine at one of the waterside restaurants.
  • In need of some culture, Copenhagen style? Momondo Places recommends the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek, an art museum in a historical building that is home to a huge array of artwork in beautiful spacious galleries. Top tip: A visit here should always include a stop for a coffee or a cool drink in the beautiful indoor winter garden, created so that the people of Copenhagen could enjoy the tranquility of a green space all year round.
  • No trip is complete without a stroll down Stroget Street, the city's main aorta and one of Europe's longest pedestrian streets with a wealth of shops, from budget-friendly chains to some of the world's most expensive brands.
  • Upside down, sideways, thrown towards the ground or swung around in the sky – there are plenty of new perspectives to gain when you visit the old amusement park, Tivoli. This is a very special place where all ages congregate to have fun. Don't miss a ride on the world's oldest roller coaster.
  • The Nimb is a superb Moorish-styled palace, boasting a striking Venetian marble facade facing the Tivoli Gardens. It's an immaculate, luxurious boutique hotel with just 17 sophisticated rooms and suites, a gourmet restaurant, a cellar wine bar and a classic hotel bar. Gorgeous rooms and suites are beautifully styled with the clean lines and simple forms of Danish design four-poster beds, original works of art and the latest technology from Bang & Olufsen. All rooms but one has a log fire and view of the Tivoli Gardens. In the evening the hotel is a fairytale setting, illuminated with thousands of tiny lights.
  • Copenhagen is full of cool cocktail bars, and the pick of the crop as to be Lidkoeb, a cocktail house recommended by Momomdo Places for its ambience and style. It extends over three floors, including a rather exclusive old-fashioned whisky bar.

  • The oldest part of the city, the Latin Quarter, gets its nickname from the presence of the old campus of Københavns Universitet (Copenhagen University) and the secondhand bookshops and cafes that grew up around it. A wonderful place for an amble, with postcard-pretty nooks and crannies.
  • You're spoiled for choice when it comes to dining out. For a really top-notch meal, Momondo Places took us to Geist in the Nyhavn area, and we weren't disappointed. Beautiful décor, ambient lighting and with everything just in the right place that you instantly fall in love with the atmosphere. The kitchen area is open so you can see the cooks preparing meals. Try the baked celeriac with condensed buttermilk.
