This 'white candy floss' grows on dead wood

Scientists have unlocked the secret behind the 'white candy floss' that grows on certain types of dead rotting wood.

That floss is actually a collection of frozen filaments called hair ice that appear when temperatures drop below the freezing point.

The team revealed that its unique form is made possible by a fungus.
