Real-life lovebirds! Two swans reunite after one recovers from being shot in the head

Story from SWNS

This is the touching moment a swan shot in the head with an air rifle was reunited with her mate after recovering from an operation.

The heart-warming video shows the bird re-enter the water following the removal of an 8mm ball from its skull.

Footage shows it swim over to its partner before they appear to greet each other - creating a heart shape.

The nesting swan was targeted last month while tending to her nest in Thatcham, Berks.

Police confirmed they were investigating the incident - thought to be one of five such attacks in the local area over a ten-day period.

Speaking at the time, Wendy Hermon of charity Swan Support slammed the shooting.

She said: "I think it's sick, sick people who have nothing else better to do. How can someone shoot a defenceless swan sat on a nest?"

The bird's eggs were taken to a local wildlife support centre.

The Queen's swan marker was also informed - describing the incident as "mindless cruelty".

Swan Support is a charity and is asking for donations to help it survive the coronavirus crisis.
