Elderly residents at a care home in Wales were entertained with a game of human 'hungry hippos' as facilities were locked down to limit the spread of the deadly coronavirus.

In this video, uploaded to Facebook on March 19, staff at Bryn Celyn Care Home in Maesteg can be seen pushing the wheelchair-bound residents towards a pool of coloured balls.

The resident then scoop up the balls with improvised catchers in the home's take on the classic Hungry Hungry Hippos game.

The game resulted in "lots of laughter to lift morale of the team and residents," care home staff said in their Facebook post.

Many care homes had been effectively closed to visitors since March 12, according to reports.

There had been 12 deaths in Wales linked to Covid-19 by Sunday, March 22, all of which where among people who were either over 70 or had underlying health problems.
