UK discount chain Poundland sells £1 engagement rings for leap year proposals

Discount chain store Poundland has started selling £1 engagement rings designed for men, to encourage women to propose this leap year.

The 'man bands' are in stores now, so that anyone keen to propose on Valentine's Day can also take advantage.

A Poundland spokesman said: "At the start of a new decade the Man Band is the perfect way for women to take control of their destiny and for men to show off their love status and enjoy the engagement limelight for a change.

"The success of the Bling Ring last year proves that the Poundland proposal is definitely the way to do it in 2020 and at only £1 why wait another four years to get down on one knee."
