Tourists grit their teeth through sizzling hot fire massages in Thailand

Holidaymakers were given free massages as part of the Thai traditional medicine fair being held at the Wat Pho temple in Bangkok, Thailand

Expert masseuses in traditional dress used wooden hammers to unlock the knots in people's backs while others walked on their bodies and used their feet - dipped in sizzling hot oil and flames from a charcoal fire - to give massages.

One visitor, George from London, said: ''It's the first time I've had a massage quite like this, being hammered with wooden nails and sizzling sesame oil rubbed into my back. '

'It was a new experience and was more relaxing than I anticipated and his feet and toes were able to get really deep in the muscles and work out the tension from those knots.''
