The best - and worst - places in UK to sell your home quickly

Homes in Scotland are selling in an average of 42 days, despite sluggish sales in much of the rest of the UK.

Analysis by Zoopla found that homes in Edinburgh and Falkirk are going under offer in an average of just 27 days, less than half of the British average of 56 days.

The property website looked at home sales in the UK's 50 biggest towns and cities and found that Scotland dominated the fast movers.

Glasgow was the third-fastest centre, with an average of 31 days for a property to go under offer, and Stirling was fourth (32 days).

Cardiff and Coventry were equal fifth with 37 days.

After Scotland, the fastest sales were seen in the West Midlands, where a property took an average of 46 days to sell.

The slowest movers were in Blackpool, where it took an average of 71 days for a house to go under offer, a day longer than properties in London.

The analysis also found that buyers are looking for different types of property depending on the area.

Three bedroom semi-detached properties are in demand in Manchester, people buying in Bristol want three-bedroom terraces and Londoners want two-bedroom flats.

Zoopla spokeswoman Annabel Dixon said: "The key is to get your pricing correct, meaning the best way to sell your home quickly is to ask for its true value given the current market.

"Over-priced homes won't shift and may have to be discounted and on the flip side nobody wants to sell for less than their property is worth."
