A dog in Florida that was found with his snout taped shut has now been deputised by police.

Lee County Sheriff's Office chronicled the dog's progress in several Facebook posts starting in late February after he was discovered by animal control roaming through the backyards of Florida residents.

The animal who had his mouth taped shut with red electrical tape was malnourished, dehydrated, bleeding from wounds on his body, and reportedly suffocating.

After being rescued, the sheriff's office said in a later post the dog was progressing wonderfully.

The dog was given a second chance by Sheriff Carmine Marceno who adopted him.

And the dog's name? It's Chance!
