Here's why you shouldn't reach for booze before bed

It's been a long day and you just want a drink. But could that night cap or after work quick one actually be contributing to your exhaustion?

Many people know that after hitting the bottle you're ready for your bed, and while alcohol sends you off to the land of nod - it actually has negative effects on health, specifically sleep.

The alcohol interferes with the body's R.E.M cycle meaning that, while you may feel sound asleep it is actually preventing you from entering deep sleep where the real work of unwinding from day's stress takes place.

This means that you're likely to wake with a wooly head. So, if you're tempted to take a nip before bed - make sure you do it earlier in the evening and not to excess.
