Duchess Kate dresses down in skinny jeans and combat boots for visit to London community garden

The Duchess of Cambridge marked her first official engagement of 2019 on Tuesday with a visit to Islington's King Henry's Walk Community Garden, where she met with local volunteers and learned about the significance of the North London project.

Established in 2007 by local residents, the garden is maintained by volunteers for the community. The project also holds a variety of educational programs and volunteer opportunities and has since become an award-winning "green space."

During Tuesday's visit, the mom-of-three spent time with volunteers who maintain the garden and children from St. Jude and St. Paul's CE Primary School, where she built bird boxes and made pizza from the centre's outdoor pizza oven, using ingredients grown directly from King Henry's.

Duchess Kate opted for a casual look for the outdoor occasion, sporting a tweed jacket from Dubarry, olive green skinny jeans and See by Chloe lace-up boots.

Her visit to the volunteer-led organisation builds on the royal's passion for the outdoors and love of nature. Tuesday's appearance coincided with a Kensington Palace announcement that Kate will work with landscape artists Davies White to design and build the Royal Horticultural Society's garden at the Chelsea Flower Show later this year.

"The garden will build on Her Royal Highness's passion for the outdoors and the proven benefits that nature has on physical and mental health," the palace said in an announcement.

"The Duchess is a strong advocate for the positive impact that nature and the environment can have on childhood development, demonstrated by her longstanding support for organisations including the Scouts and Farms for City Children, as well as at more recent engagements to Sayers Croft Forest School and Wildlife Garden, the RHS Campaign for School Gardening, and her visit to Islington Community Garden."
