Turkish police officer rescues dog from frozen lake

A Turkish police officer broke through ice on a frozen lake in Van Province to save a stranded dog on Boxing Day.

Video released by the municipality of Van shows police diver Burak Ökten swimming around 500 feet from the shore of the lake in eastern Turkey to reach the dog and bring him back to shore.

"It was the final moments, I barely made it. It's good we rescued (her)", Okten said after bringing the dog to safety.

The puppy, suffering from hypothermia, was wrapped in towels and taken to veterinary clinic after receiving CPR.

Officials said she was receiving the necessary treatment for her condition and was expected to fully recover.
