We don't all have a huge budget for household items, so it's quite convenient that the second-highest-rated bath towels on Amazon are the retailer's own "basics" range – priced at just £13 for two. At a size of 140cm by 70cm, the 100 per cent cotton towels have plenty of drying power and come in seven fade-free colour variations – including white of course. One buyer said: "These are ridiculously good value for money, wash up perfect every time, perfect thickness."
2. Design Project by John Lewis, £20 for a bath towel
If you're not into fluffy towels, these elegant Japanese-inspired towels from John Lewis might fit the bill for the more minimalist household. Constructed in a waffle pattern from a hollow-core yarn, they are less bulky than traditional bath towels and dry quickly – but still have a premium feel. They are available as 150cm by 100cm bath sheets or 140cm by 70cm bath towels (along with matching smaller sizes) and the speckled black-and-white goes with any bathroom.
3. Home Collection Yellow Floral Print by Debenhams, £14.40 for a bath towel
Plain white towels or classy designer ones are all well and good, but sometimes a bit of colour and fun is what your bathroom needs. And these items at Debenhams certainly deliver that, while still remaining classy and on-trend. The cheerful yellow hue will brighten up your bath time and the geometric print recalls the 1960s but looks totally contemporary. The design is available as a 70cm by 130cm towel or 150cm by 100cm bath sheet – as well as in a smaller size.
4. Pinzon by Amazon (pair), £16.99
Back to Amazon for our next towels, and a step up from the basics range, the Pinzon by Amazon bath towels are made from heavyweight Egyptian cotton to give that luxury spa feel as you drape it around you. They come in 10 colours, and are easy to care for – machine washable at 60 degrees and they can go in the tumble dryer on low. One buyer wrote: "This is first time I have used Egyptian Cotton and the difference in quality is stunning. I highly recommend this product. They have been through the wash and the quality is still there."
5. Christy Chevron, £9.60
Want a white towel with a bit of a designer twist? This cotton towel has a luxury feel thanks to its 550 GSM fabric, but it has been jacquard-woven to create an appealing chevron pattern. Available in four shades and as a bath towel or sheet, it was reduced by more than 50 per cent from its original price on the Debenhams website at the time of writing.
6. John Lewis Ultimate Suvin, £32 for a bath towel
If Egyptian cotton isn't fancy enough for you, John Lewis describes its Suvin towels as the ultimate in luxury bathware. Combining high-quality cotton with premium Indian suvin cotton and high-tech fibre Lyocell, it offers a thick and fluffy pile with a soft, silky feel on the skin. Both highly absorbent and durable, it is claimed to improve with washing and tumble drying. It's not cheap at £30 for a bath towel or £40 for the bath sheet, but for bath lovers it could be worth every penny.
