John Lewis knows how to make a Christmas ad and this year's offering is another tear-jerker. The £1m commercial tells the story of little girl Lily and the lonely man on the moon - encouraging shoppers to remember older people who often feel alone at this time of year.

Asda: Because it's Christmas

Last year Boots had us reaching for the tissues, with a family coming together to celebrate Christmas with their mother, a nurse coming off the night shift. This time, they hired pop video maker Joseph Kahn to produce an upbeat ad. Jessie J sings Everybody's Waitin' for The Man with the Bag by Kay Starr on the soundtrack.


Harrods: Once upon a Christmas
The animated mice are back! This time Peter Pumpernickel and Poppy Peasprout are working on a Harrods window display and nearly miss out on a party – but get to see Santa just in time.
