This spring/summer the look is about a vibrant pop of colour worn with flawless, natural matt skin and a flush of natural radiance.

"Just take care to use bold colour on one area at a time – if you go for eyes, play down cheeks and lips," says award winning make-up artist Lan Nguyen. If you go for a strong lip, keep eyes more neutral with a few coatings of black mascara.

Eyes wide open
If you choose to give drama to eyes, try a coloured mascara (Boots Collection 2000 range do an intense blue, purple and teal) and combine with a bright eye pencil.

"Colour is making a fashion come back this season so shake up your beauty look with a splash of intense colour on your eyes," says makeup artist Athena Skouvakis.

If you have blue eyes, try wearing a bright orange shadow, if you have brown eyes try a shimmering lavender or green shade.

Read my lips
Red is the statement colour for lips this spring/summer. Vintage red lips reminiscent of pure Hollywood glamour were seen on the catwalks at PPQ and House and Holland, while mouths were given a 'red wine' stain at Maria Grachvogel.

Go for glamour with a bright red (Mac do a great range) or work the trend for all things '20s with a lipstick in maroon and berry shades.

For a more fun look, try a glittery pink lip as seen on the catwalk at Moschino Cheap & Chic - Dior do a great range of shimmery colours.

Healthy radiance
To achieve a luminous look, try using a brightening primer (such as Becca) or add shimmer and shine with Chanel Eclat Lumière Highlighter Face Pen or Benefit High Beam. "A coral or bright watermelon pink crème blush is best for creating an apple-rosy glow – simply tap in on the apples of your cheeks and blend," says Lan, who recommends Becca's Crème Blush in Hyacinth.

Brows that wow
This season brows are given a slightly boyish look with full, dark brows brushed backwards – think Brooke Shield and Ali MacGraw. Throw away the tweezers and comb brows upwards using a clean mascara wand. Wear with natural face makeup, a bare eye and bold lip for a fresh faced look, as seen at Topshop Unique and Moschino Cheap & Chic.

Nail the trends
Bright colours are also on trend for nails, so be brave and try a bold shade like turquoise or purple. For a more daring look, try painting each nail a different shade of the same colour. Rose, pinks and pastel shades are popular for spring.
