Britain is not renowned for its settled, warm weather but for once the bank holiday weekend will be anything but a washout. According to the Met Office, things will be hotting up during the week and many can expect to be basking in above average temperatures come the Easter weekend.

Temperatures in the north of England are predicted to rises to 17 or 18 degrees and in the south east, could even hit a "warmer than average" 22C - warmer than Rome and Athens, would you believe. Barring the odd April shower, much of the UK will remain dry.

Hardly what we'd call a "scorcher" but it will be music to the ears of many as they plan Easter breaks, getaways and family days out.

Met Office forecaster Rebecca Sherwin told the Daily Mail: "The weather for the start of this week looks similar to what we have at the moment.

"It will be mostly dry with a few showers here and there. Most places will start the day with sunny spells and some cloud. As we go into the weekend and beyond I think generally the weather is going to be fine and dry with the possibility of a few showers, particularly in coastal areas."

There's a possibility the good weather could even hold out for the long-awaited Royal Wedding on April 29.

So get the shades, buckets and spades and barbeques at the ready Brits... for once, the sun is set to shine on bank holiday weekend!
