Lady Gaga might be pictured half-naked almost every day of the week but when it comes to relationships she has revealed a surprisingly moral standpoint. The Poker Face singer insists that she chooses to remain celibate until she has time for a serious relationship.

In London to promote the new MAC Viva Glam lipstick, Lady Gaga said: "I, for myself, make the choice to be single at this point in my life because I don't have the time to get to know anybody. And you know what? It's OK. Even Lady Gaga can be celibate."

Her comments reveal a refreshing attitude amidst the bed-hopping celebrities so often adorning the tabloid front pages. The 23-year-old went on: "If you can't get to know somebody, you shouldn't be having sex with them."

The Viva Glam From Our Lips campaign forms part of MAC's regular contribution to HIV and Aids charities and, as well as encouraging regular testing, Gaga was quick to blame the lack of sex education for a rise in those catching the virus.

"Where should all this begin? This has to begin at home. Somebody's mother didn't tell or teach them about sex," she said. "I absolutely believe that in most schools, sex education is very poor. It certainly was very poor in my school."

Since the Government has failed to stem the tide of under-age sex, maybe popstars and celebrities will have more luck when it comes to persuading youngsters to abstain.

However, bearing in mind that Britain has the highest rate of teenage pregnancies in Europe, is Lady Gaga correct in saying that the problems begin with a lack of sex education, or is the opposite true?
