Free half term ideas
A week off school is great for the kids but what about parents? Having the children all week may present a bit of a challenge for stressed adults but with some forward planning there are plenty of things to keep them out of mischief. You don't have to break the bank either. Here are some of the best free places to visit.

How about a spot of painting? The National Gallery has been rated as Britain's best free attraction by the review website TripAdvisor. It's a perfect day out with painting-inspired storytelling sessions and art workshops for children over half term and Sundays throughout the year. Entrance is free.
The Diana Princess of Wales' memorial playground is enjoyed by 750,000 children every year. Situated in Kensington Gardens this amazing playground has a huge wooden pirate ship as the centrepiece. Opened on the 30th June 2000 in memory of the late Princess, it is a fitting tribute to a lady who loved the innocence of childhood.
Would you like to see the 1966 world cup final ball? Then take the children to this free museum. The National football Museum in Preston claims to be the world's best collection of football artefacts. It's certainly a whole lot less expensive than a premiership ticket.
The National Railway Museum in York is the world's best and largest railways museum. It's free and a great day out for the kids (and dads). Discover all about the Flying Scotsmen and over 100 other locomotives.
At Richmond Park in Surrey you can enjoy the sight of 600 free-roaming deer, wander among 500-year-old trees and listen out for screeching parakeets. Add this to the stunning views of the London skyline and you have a day out to remember.
Dolphin spotting is not what you expect from the UK coastline, so how about watching bottle-nosed dolphins frolicking in the Moray Firth. Take up a position from the Cromarty Lighthouse, near the village of Fortrose for the best views. Sightings occur all year round and occasionally you will spot seals, porpoises and minke whales.
