Liverpool fans honor Cristiano Ronaldo with in-match tribute after son’s death
Liverpool and Manchester United fans came together on Tuesday to honor Cristiano Ronaldo following the death of his newborn son.
Ronaldo — who announced with his partner Georgina Rodriguez on Monday that one of their newborn twins had died — missed Manchester United’s game at Liverpool on Tuesday night.
During that match at Anfield, though, fans stood and applauded for the entire seventh minute and chanted “You’ll Never Walk Alone” throughout.
“My moment of the game was the seventh minute when the whole stadium showed pure class, so many things are much more important in life than football,” Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said, via ESPN. “We feel for Cristiano and his family. That was my moment of the game.”

Liverpool won the match 4-0.
Ronaldo and Rodriguez announced on social media Monday that their newborn son had died. The circumstances around his death are unclear. Their daughter, they said, “gives us the strength to live this moment with some hope and happiness.”
“We are all devastated at this loss and we kindly ask for privacy at this very difficult time,” they said in a statement, in part. “Our baby boy, you are our angel. We will always love you."
