Sometimes a deal that seems too good to be true is, in fact true. This is one of those times. During the month of September, Amazon is giving away $72 worth of free video games (valued on Steam) to Prime members.

Along with on-the-house games that change every month, Prime Gaming (formerly Twitch Prime) offers free level-up options for characters, boosts, skins and more. And even if you cancel the service, you can keep the games in your digital library. It's an amazing deal.

To take advantage, download the Amazon Games app. Games can be played on Windows desktops and laptops, Android smartphones and tablets, Google Chromecast, PS5 and PS4, Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One, Android TV and more. So no matter where and how you like to game, you're all set.

The classic gym class game of dodgeball gets taken to the extreme in EA's Knockout City. Customize your character and enter a world that feels equal parts Fortnite and The Fifth Element, with some splashes of Splatoon thrown in for good measure.

This colorful environment invites a wide-array of play styles, and the more you score, the more swag you unlock. Play on your own or with a team to ascend to the top of Knockout City. This game just dropped in May of this year, and Prime Gaming is already making it available for free for all their subscribers, so even if you can dodge a ball, you won't want to miss this deal.

You may remember Sam & Max if your youth was full of point & click PC gaming, but you might not know that the duo first debuted in comic book form, in Steve Purcell's 1987 Sam & Max: Freelance Police. After the success of Maniac Mansion and Monkey Island, LucasArts decided to adapt the Sam & Max series, particularly the 1989 book On the Road, and assembled a full voice cast including voice acting legend Bill Farmer (the voice of Disney icons Goofy and Pluto).

The end result, Sam & Max Hit The Road, was a massive hit that launched an entire series of Sam & Max adventures, still remembered fondly by old-school PC gamers worldwide. Now's your chance to relive the game that started it all.

If you're one for atmospheric indie games, Candleman is sure to spark something in you. You start out as a small, forgotten candle on an abandoned ship, looking for a sense of purpose. Inspired by a distant lighthouse, you decide to step out into the world. But there's a catch: the path before you is dark and full of mystery.

The wick upon your head can only burn for 10 seconds total, exceed that and you lose. Navigate using the ambient light provided by these strange new worlds, light your own flame sparingly, and enjoy a journey like few others.

Agent Tethers is in the lowest department at the FBI; literally the lowest, since the Department of Puzzle Research is on floor Z9. But when he's called to Scoggins, Minnesota to get the factory that produces erasers for the White House back up and running, he faces insurmountable puzzles and a hidden world that feels like The Crying of Lot 49 played out across the Coen Brothers' Fargo.

From the mind of Graham Annable, Oscar-nominated co-director of The Boxtrolls and creator of the cult comic Grickle, comes an adventure/puzzle game from the team at Telltale Games that is sure to satisfy crossword enthusiasts and Twin Peaks fanatics alike.

Unmemory

Unmemory bills itself as "A game you can read. A noir novel you can play." And in the same way 80s neo-noir movies like Scarface and Blade Runner reimagined the iconography of post-war film noir through a modern genre lens, Unmemory reimagines one of the earliest forms of narrative gaming, the text-based adventure, and gives it a new spin with modern indie-game flair.

You read the story of a protagonist hunting down the man who killed their criminal girlfriend, and solve puzzles to advance further through the story. Along the way, the game explores concepts like time, music, pain, touch, taste, places or smell to place the player in the mindset of the story's protagonist, who suffers from memory loss. Unmemory is a meticulously crafted reimagining of the text-based game that showcases so many new possibilities within the genre.
