My endless search for the perfect t-shirt is something Goldilocks would understand. Everything I own is either too short or too long. Too thin or too thick. Too tight or too loose. And don't even get me started on necklines and sleeve specs.

I wish I could take the sleeve from one tee, the body from another and the neckline from a third and magically create the ideal tee for my body. So imagine how excited I was to learn that Amazon has a new service that allows for just that — well, almost.

It's called Made For You, and it enables you to design a tee to your own specifications. Short sleeve or long, the fit of your choice, your favorite neckline — you even get to choose the fabric. Sounds expensive, right? It's not. Just $25. I decided to give it a whirl.

Amazon will give you free shipping too. But if you have Amazon Prime, you’ll get so much more — access to new movies and TV shows, discounts at Whole Foods, exclusive sales and two-day shipping on many items. Not yet a member? Let's fix that: You can sign up for a free 30-day trial here. (And even those without Prime get free shipping on orders of $25 or more).

I opened the Amazon app on my phone, found Made For You, then tapped "Make my T-shirt." I was prompted to set the phone on the ground (supported) and step back so it could take a full-body photo, first a front view, then a side view. No measuring tape needed; the only thing this service requires is the Amazon app ... and a little bit of patience as you sync up your stance to the app's camera (which involved a bit of trial and error but — spoiler —ended up being worth it).

Next I saw a virtual lookalike and was prompted to click on choices: shirt color, neckline, sleeve type, shirt length, fit and fabric — a medium-weight 100-percent Pima cotton, or a lightweight stretch-blend. The fit options are "slim," "classic" and "relaxed." Neckline was interesting. You can opt for "round" but then have three levels to choose from. "High" is a classic crewneck. "Medium" is a bit of a scoop. And "low" is a nice u-shape. Same with the v-neck — you have your choice of high, medium and low. So smart.

Color-wise, there are a dozen options. Lately I've developed a thing for teal, so I chose a slim-fit teal crewneck — short-sleeves and long-length. One bonus I loved: You can personalize the tag on the shirt. (I typed in "Hwaet," which is the first word of "Beowulf," because why not?)

My expectations were meh. I thought the self-styling process was enough of a gimmick that the actual shirt only needed to be only ... okay. But for once I'm happy to admit I was wrong! Seven days later when my tee arrived, I was seriously impressed (see below for my modeling debut). The color is actually better in person than in the photo, the feel is rather luxurious for a tee, and the fit is perfect. It's as if it were — dare I say —made for me?

Shoppers agree that Made For You is made for them as well. Reported one, "The fit is really where this shines. I own t-shirts from 10+ stores, and this one looks the best. Definitely getting a few more of these in different colors."

This customer agreed: "... this may the best fitting t-shirt I've ever owned."

At first, this reviewer was skeptical, but then came to love it. "...The shirt just arrived and I tried it on — it's pretty amazing. It fits super well — the sleeve length is perfect, tapered (slim fit) on the sides, and the length is good too. The fabric is super soft and comfortable. Very excited about this and might treat myself to a few more in different cuts and colors!"

My take? The process was easy and the results were spectacular, so I'm going to try a v-neck long-sleeved loose-fitting top for the cooler months — perhaps part of my growing winter white collection? To be continued....
