Jodie Comer turns heads in dramatic red mini dress as she scoops Olivier Award
Jodie Comer has joined the celebrities proving that the LRD (Little Red Dress) is a winning wardrobe staple.
The Killing Eve actor, 30, was attending the prestigious Olivier Awards at London's Royal Albert Hall where she scooped the best actress gong for her role in West End show Prima Facie.
Turning heads in an off-the-shoulder ruffled red mini dress with statement train from Alexander McQueen, the star rocked the fiery gown, which perfectly ticked both the elegant and sultry boxes.
Teaming the crimson gown with simple strappy heels, also from McQueen, Comer kept her hair and make-up simple allowing her ruby red outfit to be front and centre.
The Help actor certainly isn't the only celebrity to adopt the shade on the red carpet with everyone from royalty, including Meghan, Duchess of Sussex and Kate, Princess of Wales to Rihanna going bold in the vibrant hue.
It's little wonder therefore that Christian Dior once said there's "certainly a red for everyone". Put simply, red dresses look good – on everyone.
"Every skin tone looks great in true primary red," Helen Venables, personal stylist and chair of image consultancy House of Colour, tells Yahoo UK. "That's because all other colours have either more yellow or more blue pigment in them and true red is the one colour that sits right in the mid point."
If you're unsure how to wear it, take some style notes from the fashion set including Princess Diana, to Margot Robbie and Florence Pugh.

Jodie Comer
Jodie Comer opted for a statement Alexander McQueen dress in a fiery red hue to accept her award for best actress at the Olivier Awards 2023.
An Instagram post by the designer celebrated Comer's win, while also applauding her style prowess in the stand-out look.
"Winner of Best Actress, wears a #McQueenAW23 red deconstructed trench dress featuring an exploded off-the-shoulder collar with the #McQueenPunk sandals to the 2023 #OlivierAwards in London," the post read.
Margot Robbie
For the UK premiere of Babylon, the Australian actor oozed style in a sweeping, backless Valentino gown that otherwise entirely covered her body. Matching lipstick and a relaxed looped ponytail completed the ensemble.
Lily James
Lily James was the British belle of the ball at the 2023 Golden Globes, in a dramatic cutout dress by Versace. James let her gown do the talking and kept her make-up natural, with a diamond choker and matching earrings adding a hint of bling without detracting from the outfit.
Meghan, Duchess of Sussex
In the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's controversial Netflix docuseries, Harry & Meghan, Meghan said she only felt comfortable wearing colour again after she stepped down as a senior member of the Firm.
Which is why it was such a statement that one of the gowns Meghan wore for her and Prince Harry's "farewell tour" of the UK in March 2020 was a bright red Safiyaa gown. The duchess truly went out with a bang.

Kate, Princess of Wales
The Princess of Wales loves to wear a red frock, but perhaps none have been so regal as the Preen by Thornton Bregazzi midi dress with an asymmetrical neckline that she wore for an engagement in Canada during her and the Prince of Wales' tour of the nation in 2016.
Kate accessorised the look with a pair of plain suede red heels, a red clutch and a diamond maple leaf brooch that was gifted to her by Queen Elizabeth II.
Diana, Princess of Wales
Just 18 months after her wedding to the now-King Charles III, Diana, Princess of Wales had already cemented her status as a style icon.
Case in point: this red chiffon Bellville Sassoon gown that Diana wore to London's Royal Opera House for a charity gala performance in 1982. Four decades on and the gown wouldn't look out of place on a red carpet today.
Scarlett Johansson
Scarlett Johansson is no stranger to wearing a striking red dress on the Golden Globes red carpet.
A decade before the 38-year-old wore a strapless Vera Wang dress with a deep V neckline to the 2020 ceremony, the actor wore a bright red Valentino gown to the 2006 Golden Globes when she was just 21 – the latter becoming that year's most-talked about outfit.
Selena Gomez
Selena Gomez looked stunning when she returned to the red carpet in 2016, after taking a short break due to complications from lupus.
For the 2016 American Music Awards, the singer and actor, now 30, wore a bright red Prada gown with a corseted bodice and flowing skirt.
Florence Pugh
Florence Pugh was already the undisputed red carpet Queen of 2022before she wore this red backless Valentino dress in December to the British Fashion Awards.
The deep red satin gown was custom-made for the 26-year-old, and featured pockets and a long train.

Nicole Kidman
It's a truth universally acknowledged that any redhead or strawberry blonde will look striking in red.
Take Nicole Kidman, for example. When the actor was rocking strawberry blonde locks for the 2007 Oscars she went for a bold red with her floor-sweeping Balenciaga gown. It's a simple look, but it's given extra gravitas thanks to the trailing bow stitched onto the neckline.
Jennifer Lawrence
Jennifer Lawrence chose a red Dior gown for her big moment at the 2016 Golden Globes.
The actor, now 32, wore the cut-out, backless gown to claim the Golden Globe for best actress in a motion picture, musical or comedy, for her performance in Joy. She paired the bold gown simply with a diamond necklace and her blonde hair swept back into a knot.
Zendaya
Ask any Gen Z who their current fashion icon is and there's a high chance that they would reply with Zendaya.
The actor, 26, has cemented herself as a leader of the style set, not only claiming the title of one of 2022's best outfits, but with this Alaïa look she wore to the 2021 CFDA Awards where she aptly became the youngest-ever recipient of the Fashion Icon Award.
Dakota Johnson
Dakota Johnson (and her ever-coveted fringe) wore red to the 2016 BAFTAs where she was nominated for the Rising Star award.
The slinky Dior gown featured spaghetti straps and ruffles all the way to the floor. She paired the look with a swipe of red lipstick and her hair in a casual style.
Lupita Nyong'o
Lupita Nyong'o was arguably the best-dressed celebrity on the 2014 Golden Globes red carpet, where she donned a Ralph Lauren Collection off-the-shoulder gown complete with a billowing cape.
She was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for 12 Years a Slave, which she later won the Oscar for.
Duchess of Sussex
Post-royal life, Meghan stepped up her fashion game and this red dress has been one of her standout moments.
The duchess, 41, wore a bright red Carolina Herrera gown, with a deep V neckline and flowing overlayed skirt. She complemented the dress with a pair of red Giuseppe Zanotti slingback heels.
Bella Hadid
Bella Hadid's 2016 Cannes look was sultry and sexy, and instantly became an iconic red dress moment.
However, the supermodel, now 26, later said that she "regretted" the Alexandre Vauthier look because of her nerves around the hip-high slit.
"I was nervous in this dress. I look very sexual and all these things. I was still nervous about cameras and nervous about having a lot of makeup on and nervous about... this slit was, like – thank God, I think that maybe there was one little slip that happened. But I kind of get embarrassed of this moment still, even though the dress is gorgeous," she told Vogue.
Catherine Zeta-Jones
Long before Catherine Zeta-Jones donned an all-black wardrobe for her stint as Morticia Addams in Netflix's Wednesday, she was bringing bright hues to the red carpet.
The actor has always looked stunning in red, but perhaps none so much as her 2015 Golden Globes look. The strapless Ángel Sánchez look kept things interesting with its ruched satin fabric at the bust.

Amanda Seyfried
The 2021 Academy Awards was the first big red carpet back as pandemic restrictions began to lift, so it's understandable that the stars went all-out.
Amanda Seyfried's dramatic gown was the perfect outfit for a red carpet return, and was designed by Giorgio Armani himself.
"I wanted to highlight Amanda’s personality with this dress, which gives shape to passion," Armani told Vogue. "Finely pleated, it forms into a petal shape like an upside-down flower, enhanced by a hibiscus red hue."
Rihanna
All eyes were on Rihanna in 2017, when she stepped out in London at the premiere for Valerian and The City of a Thousand Planets wearing a crimson red Giambattista Valli Couture gown.
The off-the-shoulder gown was fitted around the bust before bursting into a voluminous skirt that trailed behind the singer. She paired it simply with red lipstick and her hair slicked back.
Jennifer Aniston
Jennifer Aniston ended her four-year hiatus from attending the Oscars in 2013 by rocking up to the event wearing a show-stopping Valentino gown.
The simple strapless gown allowed the red hue to shine, and the actor paired it with her signature pin-straight blonde locks, and minimal makeup. During the evening she presented an award with former Friends co-star, Paul Rudd.
