Amber Tamblyn wants reproductive freedom for her 39th birthday: 'All I want for my birthday is to fight'

Amber Tamblyn is celebrating her 39th birthday in an untraditional way.

The actress, writer and activist posted on Instagram on Saturday to request that followers take to the streets in honor of fighting for reproductive freedom. On her page, Tamblyn posted a close black-and-white photo of her face, along with the words "All I want to do is fight" emblazoned over it in bright, capital green letters.

"For my birthday today, I want you to join a march in your town to fight for bodily freedom and the reproductive rights of every person in this country," the Joan of Arcadia alum wrote, along with a hashtag that read "Bans off our bodies."

"I’ll be marching in New York, starting at noon in Cadman Plaza and heading over the bridge to Foley Square for a big rally. If you see me, come say hi," she continued.

The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants actress added in a list of other marches taking place across the country, as well as a message asking for people to donate money if they can't attend.

"If you can’t join a march today, please donate to Planned Parenthood for my birthday instead. Any dollar amount will do.​ We’re in this fight together. See you on the battlefield," she wrote.

A co-founder of Time's Up, Tamblyn is known for her political engagement as well as her work on screen. Rarely one to avoid speaking out, she revealed on Instagram in 2020 that she designed a face mask that referenced former President Donald Trump’s “Make America Great Again” slogan. The MAGA-red face covering, which benefitted NARAL Pro-Choice America, a reproductive freedom organization, was emblazoned with the words “Are We Great Again Yet?”

"With more than 175,000 COVID deaths, 16 million people unemployed, thousands of children separated from their families and caged, I have just one question," Tamblyn captioned a post of her sporting the face covering.

Tamblyn wasn't the only celebrity speaking out about reproductive rights on Saturday. Julia Louis-Dreyfus also attended a march, where she called out a line of one of her most famous characters, Veep's President Selina Meyer. Dressed in jeans and a green coat, Louis-Dreyfus held up a sign that read, "if men got pregnant you could get an abortion at an ATM."

Louis-Dreyfus declared in her video, "I'm marching today to let the Supreme Court know that 80% of Americans support abortion, and see it as a health care issue, which of course it is."
