For the last five years, LadBaby have dominated the Christmas charts - but enough is enough, say the novelty hitmakers.

Husband and wife duo Mark and Roxanne Hoyle have had five Christmas number ones with comedy singles to raise money for food bank charity The Trussell Trust, but are hanging up their Santa hats in 2023 saying it's time for someone else to have a go.

They told Metro: "After five amazing years we’ve decided to pass the baton over to the Great British public and we’re not going for Christmas number one this year.

"We never expected it to be five, I’ll be totally honest. It’s one of those things that just happened over the years and we thought it was amazing that the public got behind us in the way that they did.

"Five years ago when we started this, we knew the importance of food banks in this country and we wanted to raise funds and awareness for that so we did that one [song], that was lovely."

The Hoyles added that they always intended to make five songs their limit, but are hoping their "legacy" will be "charity songs dominate every Christmas," encouraging music fans to make every song in the festive top 20 a fundraising hit.

But did the news come as a disappointment or a gift to you?

How have people reacted to no more LadBaby?

Despite their five years of food bank charity giving, much of the reaction to LadBaby's news was excited at the prospect of opening up Christmas number one to other acts.

One person commented on X: "After five years under their evil sausage roll shackles LadBaby have confirmed they aren’t campaigning for a Christmas number one this year. We have been freed."

Someone else wrote: "Best present ever!!! Thank you so much Ladbaby!!!"

Another person added: "At least our kids won’t remember Ladbaby….."

Not everyone knew who the novelty act was, as someone asked: "I’ve never heard a LadBaby single. Are they played on the radio or just This Morning and GMB type shows?"

A hopeful music fan commented: "Wait so no X Factor, No LadBaby - are we about to get an actual Christmas number one?"
