Labrador Retrievers' Refusal to Get Out of the Pool Is a Total Mood

With Easter just around the corner, many parts of the country are experiencing their first true days of spring. The vernal equinox falls around March 20 every year, when more and more people start to spend time outside.

Many dog owners are finding ways to enjoy the warm weather, too. Whether it's an extra long walk to the park or simply taking your cuddle sesh outside for a few minutes, there's no wrong way to make the most of the sunshine with your furry friend. If you have a dog like Buster, however, they might be busy making the most of the springtime themselves!

Buster the Yellow Lab and his friend Scooby are known for loving their backyard pool more than anything. Even though they swim year-round, they wanted to take advantage of every last moment on one particular sunny day. Buster, who is clearly the ringleader, just wouldn't get out of the pool!

LOL! I'm not sure what's funnier--the dog's blatant refusal of their mom's directions or her increasing frustration. But it's only funny because I've been there myself! I can practically feel her annoyance as she whips out Buster's full name, but like many other viewers, I can't help but notice only one pup is getting the blame here.

What about Scooby? The older Yellow Lab was jumping in the pool just as much as Buster was, but I suspect that Buster is the leader of the group. Scooby seems like a laid-back dog who would follow his friend inside when it was time to stop swimming.

Then again, maybe this talented swimming dog has a master plan! If it looks like Buster is the leader, Scooby can reap all the rewards (pool time) with none of the risk. Now that's a smart dog!

Why Do Labradors Like to Swim?

If you've spent much time on the dog side of TikTok, this likely isn't the first swimming Lab that you've seen. Labrador Retrievers were bred to be hunting dogs who could retrieve game in a number of different environments--including water. They often helped duck hunters find their catches, and have always been proficient swimmers.

Even though most Labs are family dogs today, most of them enjoy taking a swim in a pool, lake, or even river. Once, I saw a Chocolate Lab playing fetch at the beach and hopping over the small waves at the shoreline! These all-around dogs love to be active--there's no question about it--and they need owners who can give them the amount of exercise and mental stimulation that they need. If that means running late because of a wet dog every now and then, it's still a pretty great trade-off!
