Labrador Retriever's Chaotic Response to Hearing the Word 'Breakfast' Has People Feeling Seen

You know what they say about breakfast: it's the most important meal of the day! Not only does a hearty meal give you the energy to face the day, but it's also delicious! No matter what you like to eat in the morning, it's never a bad thing to nourish your body.

Luckily, dogs feel the same way! Many pups are excited to have their breakfasts and dinners, even if it's the same thing every day. One excitable Yellow Labrador feels the very same way, but the way she reacts to the word 'breakfast' has even her mama laughing out loud. Luckily, she managed to film the Retriever's morning antics in a July 28 TikTok video that gets funnier the more you watch it. Take a look!

LOL! Just when I was thinking, 'what a calm Labrador Retriever!" she proves just how wild she can be. She can't help it--she's just excited for breakfast! She's got lots of built-up energy from a long night of sleep, after all, but a nutritious breakfast will ensure she has the rest of the energy she needs for the long day ahead. Clearly, she's a high-energy pup, and she needs the nutrients!

In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if this Yellow Lab is an eating machine. Judging by her mom's videos on TikTok, she's still just a puppy! Young dogs and pups tend to eat even more than their older counterparts, so this might be her reaction for every meal--not just breakfast! My three dogs all know the word 'dinner,' so I wouldn't be surprised if this cutie does, too.

A commenter named Nikki wasn't the only one to notice "the ear twitch in anticipation of you saying the word." It was so subtle but so cute! Dogs have the smallest ways of communicating, including tiny movements of the ears, but you have to know where to look.

Why Are Labs So Hungry?

Plenty of commenters are gushing over this gal's culinary enthusiasm, but others are saying that their Labs do the same thing! It seems like a common theme to see food-motivated Labrador Retrievers, but why is this breed known to be so hungry?

As it turns out, your dog can't help it. Labradors actually tend to eat more and burn fewer calories because of a breed-specific genetic mutation. The POMC gene helps control a dog's metabolism, but the mutation tends to make them much hungrier than needed. According to HealthDay News, this mutation affects roughly 25% of Labrador Retrievers and 66% of Flat Coated Retrievers.

Whether or not this hungry girl has this genetic mutation, there's no doubt that she loves her breakfast. As long as everything remains in moderation, there's nothing wrong with being a foodie!
