Kym Marsh has praised her fans after she announced she’s leaving Coronation Street after 13 years.

On Monday the former Hear’Say singer-turned-actress revealed that she would be leaving the soap, which she joined back in 2006.

Writing on Twitter she thanked her fans for their support and that she felt ‘overwhelmed.’

“Overwhelmed with all your lovely messages today. I have read and truly appreciate every single one of them,” Marsh wrote.

42-year-old Marsh has been inundated with fans’ well-wishes after she announced her shock departure.

One wrote: ‘It’s an understatement to say that you’ll be missed very much but good luck with everything you go on to do. Hope you’ll return to Corrie one day.’

While another agreed: ‘Gonna miss you SO much☹️ I’ve loved you since you first came into it & you’ve been absolutely beyond incredible the whole time.’

But some of her followers wrote that while they think Marsh is a great actress, they believe her character – Michelle Connor – storyline’s have run their course.

With one follower writing: ‘In fairness there were no more credible story lines left for Michelle. The son story amongst others terrible. Hope you will go onto much better things.’

Marsh announced in a formal press statement on Monday that she would be leaving the soap, but that an eventual return will more than likely be on the cards:

“When I was lucky enough to be offered four episodes on Coronation Street I could never in my wildest dreams have thought I’d be here 13 years later.

“It’s been an incredibly difficult decision but it feels like the right time for me to take a break from the show and explore some other roles.

“But this isn’t the last you’ve heard of Michelle Connor, she’ll be back! I can’t wait to see what the writers have in store for the future.”

Marsh was last in the headlines back in November when she announced she is to be a grandmother at aged 42. Her daughter, 21-year-old Emilie is expecting her first child.
