Kate Humble fears her TV career might be over
Kate Humble has revealed she thinks her time on television might have come to an end.
The 54-year-old wildlife presenter - known to viewers of Springwatch and Animal Park - admitted her TV work seems to have dried up.
Humble told Platinum magazine: "TV is a very strange place at the moment. Fifty per cent of freelancers are saying they're out of work, programmes are just not being commissioned.
"It's been a long-running joke for probably the entire 30 years I've been working in television, but in January, Ludo [Graham, her husband] will ask me, 'Is this the last year you're ever going to work in television?' and I'll say, 'Yes'. Then another year goes by and somehow I still seem to be doing it. Now it does feel different though."
She went on: "The landscape is changing and I honestly don't know whether television is going to be a major part of my life, no part of my life or part of what has always been a bit of a portfolio career, which basically means doing whatever comes along that pays the bills and feeds the dogs."
The wildlife presenter rose to fame on Springwatch from 2005 alongside Bill Oddie, Chris Packham and Michaela Strachan among others.
Martin Hughes-Games claimed in 2019 he had been axed from the show for being “white, middle class and old-aged”.
Humble also presented Animal Park with Ben Fogle and has appeared on Countryfile.
In 2020 Humble shared her move to a farm in Wales for Channel 5's Escape To The Farm.
And she has also fronted A Country Life For Half the Price, Good Life, Green Life and Kate Humble's Coastal England on Channel 5.
Humble married TV producer Ludo Graham, 61, in 1992 and has previously said that not having children may be the secret to their successful marriage.
She told Woman's Weekly magazine: "I think not having them gives you a liberation that parents don't have.
"You grow and change a lot over 30 years, and in a lot of ways we've had the space to allow each other to do that.
"We don't have great expectations of each other, either. I don't expect him to be the breadwinner; he doesn't expect me to be the mother."
Humble has revealed that when she and her husband discussed having children she had a form of 'panic attack' before realising she didn't want to be a parent.
She said: "I broke down in tears and said: 'I cannot do it.' It was kind of a primeval response [and] I don't know where it came from.
"It was so strong, and that was the moment that I thought: 'I'm never going to change my mind.' "
