Jimmy Kimmel announced to host Oscars 2023

Jimmy Kimmel has been announced to host the Oscars again in 2023.

The late night talkshow host previously fronted the awards in 2017 and 2018 and will return for a third time to present the Academy's 95th annual ceremony to celebrate the previous year of film.

Kimmel was hosting the awards during the infamous Oscars 'flub' in which Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway mistakenly announced the wrong Best Picture winner in 2017. The Bonnie and Clyde duo announced that La La Land had won Hollywood's most coveted prize, when in fact Moonlight had won.

A backstage envelope mix up was blamed.

The 95th Academy Awards is set to be broadcast worldwide on Sunday, 12 March, 2023 live from the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.

The 2023 ceremony will also be produced by Glenn Weiss and Ricky Kirshner.

On being asked to host the Oscars again, Kimmel said: “Being invited to host the Oscars for a third time is either a great honor or a trap. Either way, I am grateful to the Academy for asking me so quickly after everyone good said no."

Academy CEO Bill Kramer and president Janet Yang also commented on the hiring of Kimmel: “Jimmy is the perfect host to help us recognise the incredible artists and films of our 95th Oscars. His love of movies, live TV expertise, and ability to connect with our global audiences will create an unforgettable experience for our millions of viewers worldwide."

They added: "With Kimmel, Weiss and Kirshner’s fresh perspective and masterful guidance, the Oscars will celebrate its rich 95-year history, the collaborative nature of moviemaking, and our diverse, dynamic and deeply creative community of filmmakers.”

This year, the ceremony was co-hosted by Amy Schumer, Wanda Sykes and Regina Hall with Coda taking home the top prize of Best Picture.

The 2022 Oscars was best known for the infamous moment where Will Smith slapped Chris Rock for making a joke about his wife's bald appearance.

Smith was subsequently banned from the ceremony for 10 years after apologising to Rock, the Academy and the cast and crew of King Richard.
