Jeremy Clarkson hints there will be 'no happy ending' at Clarkson's Farm
Jeremy Clarkson has confessed farming doesn't have "many happy endings" and it is "much harder" than it looks.
All of Clarkson's farming struggles have played out on screen and there is some heartbreak in store for series three. From his own experience on Diddly Squat farm, he said: "Well, farming doesn’t have many happy endings, as we've discovered."
Clarkson's Farm faced a tragedy as after getting pigs, their piglets die in devastating scenes set to play out in series three of the Prime Video show. Clarkson comforted crying Lisa in the trailer as they lose members of their animal farm family. Lisa has spoken about her heartbreak and Clarkson said farming is "much harder" than it is portrayed to be.
Ahead of the new series, he said: "Farming on television has been portrayed in the past as fresh straw, fluffy lambs, agreeable calves: a bit like Babe. I had it in my head before we ever started the farm that farming wasn't like that – that it was much dirtier and harder, and I always wanted to show it like it actually is."
What makes it even harder is Clarkson said there aren't many happy endings. He went on: "Every single TV show or movie we watched as a child was sad: Lassie, Ring of Bright Water where the otter gets a shovel through his head, Old Yeller, he died. Born Free was an absolute tear-jerker."
He added: "There was never a children's film in the Sixties and Seventies where it had a happy ending and I don't know what happened, but movie producers decided films needed happy endings, and that's what we've got used to. Well, farming doesn’t have many happy endings, as we've discovered."
As we see in the trailer, the stars of the show get vulnerable on camera where his girlfriend breaks down in tears on the farm. Clarkson said they want to show the "real farming" to the world. He said: "We want to do real farming and show everybody what real farming is. So whatever happens on the farm, we show it on television."
It's not all gloomy though as there is some fun in store for audiences too. Kaleb Cooper gets a big promotion to farm manager and he quickly uses his new title to make some changes. Cooper fired Clarkson from his own farm in hilarious scenes set to tickle everyone's humour. Clarkson was stunned by the so-called firing and he set Cooper straight. He told Cooper: "What? You can't fire me, I'm the boss!"
Cheeky Cooper told him: "I'm the farm manager, you're fired." The farm manager was very amused but he admitted Clarkson was still on the farm. He told This Morning of the moment: "It was awesome, but unfortunately he's still here."
This series Cooper revealed he has his biggest row with Clarkson but they seem closer than ever as friends. Ahead of the third run of the show, he said: "I think in this series we have probably our biggest ever argument." However, their fights never last long.
Cooper said: "But don't get me wrong, I love the man. I think when you're good friends with someone, and you have that amazing chemistry, it makes everything easier. Yes, we can argue, and yes, we can shout at each other, but at the same time, we’re friends."
Clarkson's Farm has been renewed for a fourth series. The third instalment of the show will air on Prime Video on May 3 and fans are excited. The stakes appear to be higher than ever as the crops fail after severe hot weather, inflation has sent supply prices sky-rocketing and the farm shop faces closure. Plus, the hopes of a restaurant have been shutdown by the council.
Ever the creative, Clarkson has come up with a plan to tackle the latest round of disasters. He sets his sights on making a profit from the hundreds of acres of unfarmed land. But not everything works out as Clarkson sees it in his mind as his plan involves getting pigs which sadly goes wrong.
