Heartbroken fans pay tribute to ‘gentle’ Robin Windsor under his final photo

Devastated fans have shared their tributes to the "gentle" Robin Windsor under his final photo.

Strictly pro Windsor died aged 44, it was announced on Tuesday. The news has come as a shock to many of his fans as well as the celebrities and friends who knew him. Susanna Reid got emotional on Good Morning Britain announcing the star's death on breakfast TV. Later on Good Morning Britain, the presenters were joined by former pros Brendan Cole and Erin Boag who also paid tribute saying they were "devastated" and in "shock".

Social media was also awash with fans leaving tributes under the last post and photograph of former Strictly Come Dancing Robin Windsor. It has been three weeks since the late star shared his last photograph on social media on January 28 but on Tuesday many fans shared new comments beneath the post.

Among the comments from fans, one wrote: "So sad & shocked. Just a couple of weeks ago I was dancing in his arms for 90mins as I didn’t have a partner in a cha cha cha class. A gentleman. A gentle man. A magical day for me. Sending love to his friends and family. RIP."

The last photograph captured Windsor smiling in the mirror as he snapped the moment on his phone. The post was shared with his 46.6k followers on Instagram. He wrote: "Hiding in the shadows." Three weeks ago, he had been performing on cruise ship MS Bolette and stopped off at Cape Town. The star shared a series of sun-soaked photographs from Cape Town around that time.

More people wrote: "No longer in the shadows but in the light." Another added: "So shocked and saddened to hear the news. Have followed him for years since Strictly, an amazing talent. RIP."

Others added: "Omg just heard the devastating news......didn't know you but only ever heard good things....and of course you were amazing on SCD. R. I . P..... a reminder for us all that life is TOO short for ALL of us...sending love to his family and many friends."

Windsor's death was announced on the Facebook page of The Burn the Floor. The statement read: "The Burn the Floor family has lost one of its founding members, Robin ‘Bobby’ Windsor - who has tragically passed away.

“A BTF journeyman, he danced with us for twenty years - including Broadway, The West End and all our crazy adventures around the world. His stunning image attached with Jessica Raffa defined our company, colourful, extreme and sensual. His talent, attitude, energy and personality helped create the Burn the Floor stage reputation. He leaves a void in our hearts that will never be filled, yet our wonderful memories will stay forever."

Many of the Strictly stars have said they are "completely devastated" by the news. James Jordan wrote: "I had the pleasure of working with this man for many years on Strictly - I have such fond memories of him. He was always very caring and fun to be around. Everyone who came in contact with him adored him, from his celebrity partners to his working colleagues. You will be missed old friend."

Anton Du Beke wrote: "Absolutely devastated to hear the sad news about Robin, a person I’ve known for the best part of twenty five years - from a young competitor to a star of Strictly Come Dancing. In my eyes he was always a star. We’re going to miss you, Robin. x."

Susanna Reid shared her heartache over Windsor's death on GMB, having danced with him on the Strictly Children In Need special in 2011. She said: "Robin was larger than life. I fell in love with him and fell in love with dancing when I danced with him back then."

She went on: "He was an absolutely remarkable dancer, incredibly strong, so creative. He was so enthusiastic about dancing. I adored him. He was the most incredible personality and as soon as I danced with him, there was something very special as him."
