Harry Redknapp has weighed in on the ongoing feud between Coleen Rooney and Rebekah Vardy, claiming that the footballers’ wives are motivated by “publicity.”

In an interview with the Daily Mirror Online, the former Tottenham Hotspur and Portsmouth manager was asked what he made of Wayne Rooney’s partner Coleen accusing Jamie Vardy’s spouse of sharing details of her personal Instagram posts with the tabloids.

“They seem to be getting plenty of publicity,” Redknapp replied. “I suppose that's what they like, really.”

Since Rooney shared her investigative findings on social media last week, Vardy has denied the allegations. Either way, Redknapp says he couldn’t care less about whether Vardy did leak private stories about Rooney to the press and would rather catch up on sport-related news instead.

“When I was in football, it was only the footballers we used to read about,” the I’m A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! winner stated. “We didn't have WAGs or whatever they're called now. They weren't around in my day. I'm only interested in reading about Jamie Vardy or Wayne Rooney. I'm not interested in what their wives are doing, to be truthful.”

Redknapp is hardly the first famous name to react to Rooney and Vardy’s row. Just yesterday, actor and former professional football player Vinnie Jones labelled their public spat “an embarrassment” during an appearance on Good Morning Britain.

Talking about his late wife, who died three months ago, the 54-year-old said: "You look at the papers now with the two footballer's wives. Tanya got offered hundreds and hundreds of opportunities to do modelling and do stories and she never done none of them.

"She's the opposite to these girls now. People ask me, 'What do you think of these two girls?' and I think it's quite funny and everything else, what about the embarrassment to their husbands, no thought of the kids.”

Elsewhere, Loose Women star Stacey Solomon explained that while she accepted Rooney’s decision to address the situation publicly and can see that she’s clearly hurt by what she’s discovered, “unless you have a conversation with somebody you can't get a real gist of whether they have done it or not.”

She added: “She hasn't actually outed Rebekah Vardy, she said Rebekah Vardy's account, which leaves it open to anything. What do you achieve with that? I don't really understand."
