'Good Morning Britain' presenter Kate Garraway says home-schooling is 'torture'

Kate Garraway has admitted she is struggling with home-schooling her children, whose dad Derek Draper remains in hospital amid his COVID-19 battle.

The Good Morning Britain presenter is home-schooling the couple’s daughter Darcey, 14, and son Billy, 11, and confessed it’s a bit of a slog.

Speaking to co-host Ben Shephard on the ITV programme, she expressed her delight at getting to Friday, saying there was “a collective sigh of relief to anybody who is locked into the torture of home schooling”.

Garraway, 53, went on: “I think the first time round, I was somewhat distracted at the time, the first time around a lot of people felt quite nice, the sun was shining.

“They thought, ‘Great, time with the children,’ and ‘Let's see what those teachers are doing’.

“And very quickly realised how brilliant teachers are.

“And this time around it's a real struggle isn't it?"

The family has had a tough run as Draper has been in hospital since March last year after contracting COVID.

Garraway and the children did get to spend time with him over the festive season, which marked the first time the family had all been together for a while.

The TV star said the reunion was “wonderful” but that her husband is “very changed”.

She recently said on GMB: “There was lovely moment, which we did have, which was we did, over the period, get to see Derek and the children did which is the first time they have been able to do that, so that was amazing.

"Of course it was very heightened with emotion, because he is very changed.”

Garraway and Draper wed in 2005.
