Golden Retriever's Silly Ear Scratching Technique Is Too Cute to Resist

There are many satisfying sensations in day-to-day life, like the feel of fresh, clean sheets, but nothing hits the spot quite like scratching an itch. Whether it's been bugging you for hours or it came on suddenly, scratching an intense itch brings a sense of relief and satisfaction like no other.

Even our furry friends understand! Dogs and cats love a good scratch on the head, behind the ear, or even on their backside, but sometimes they have to take care of a sudden itch themselves. Luckily, dogs are flexible and can reach most places on their body, but when scratching an itch feels that good, your bigger concern will be getting them to stop!

As one Golden Retriever proved in an April 17 TikTok video, there are many effective ways to take care of an itch. Reed found himself in quite an odd position while scratching his ear, but over 5 million people have gotten a giggle out of this Golden's itchy shenanigans.

LOL! I can only imagine what kind of confusing thoughts were running through his owner's mind when they looked over to see this. It's like he's trying to do yoga! It may not be a downward dog position, but it sure looks effective for reaching that itchy ear. Whatever works!

"Who is his pilates teacher?" asked commenter @amytapp1. Haha! This Golden Retriever probably has a one-track mind when it comes to scratching that itch, but he is quite flexible when I stop to think about it. Some dogs--and most people--could never! Fortunately, there are plenty of other options for scratching ears, including getting pets!

Just ask the commenters! People could totally relate to this itchy dog and the blissed-out face he was making. Someone said this looks like "me when I use a Q-tip," while someone else mentioned, "you know that felt so good." His grunts totally gave him away!

Why Is My Dog Itchy?

While every creature big and small gets itchy sometimes, there are a few times when you may want to keep an eye on your dog's itching. If they suddenly begin scratching incessantly, or if you notice any kind of irritation where your dog is itching, it's worth a closer look. Most causes of itching are nothing to worry about, but the sooner you can get to the root of the problem, the sooner your dog can find relief.

Common causes of itchy dogs include allergies, infrequent grooming, mats in the fur, skin conditions, and even dandruff. Some of these causes are more obvious than others, but if the problem persists, don't hesitate to contact your dog's veterinarian.

In Reed's case, he seemed to be really into scratching a normal, everyday itch. Why he's upside-down, though? Who knows!
