Pet owners know just how magical the love of an animal can be. Dogs and cats can help you heal emotional wounds you didn't even know you had, and they can be an unconditional source of love and acceptance. Even when things get difficult, they'll never give up on you.

We really do learn so much from our pets, whether they're in our care for a few weeks or a few decades. Even shelter dog foster parents like Brooklyn-based Isabel find themselves falling in love and learning so much from every animal they meet. But on April 19, Isabel posted a TikTok video regarding a very special foster dog.

French Bulldog sweetheart King has been with her and her boyfriend since April 3, but he's left a huge pawprint on both of their hearts since then. Naturally, Isabel was feeling emotional and reflective after dropping him off at his next adventure.

Pass the tissues, please! It's clear as day how much Isabel cares for King, even in the way she holds him in the car and disassembles his crate at home. I can only imagine how wonderfully she and her boyfriend pampered him for the two weeks he stayed with them! From trips to a dog-friendly beach to a personal serenade from Isabel's boyfriend, this sweet dog truly had it all.

The precious French Bulldog had been brought to an NYC animal shelter in late 2023 after becoming paralyzed in his hind legs. He also has to wear a diaper while in his wheelchair, but his condition doesn't stop him in the slightest. On the contrary, he has a zest for life that his foster mom fell in love with!

But if that were the case, why didn't she keep him? As she explained, not keeping him was the biggest act of love she could perform. She not only offers him the chance at his very best life with a doting forever family, but she also gets the space to house and love her next foster dog.

What If I Can't Foster?

It's only natural to want to help rescue dogs like King find their Happily Ever Afters, but the reality is that not everyone is able to adopt a dog. And that's OK! It requires a certain amount of time, patience, and flexibility to foster a dog that doesn't fit into everyone's schedule. Luckily, that's not the only way you can help animals in need.

Many shelters are in need of volunteers to clean kennels and walk dogs, which requires much less commitment than fostering. You can also raise funds or gather donations for a local shelter, though it's always smart to double-check what specific items they're in need of. However you decide to help, know that you're doing a wonderful thing for rescue animals just like King!
