First 'Spider-Man: Far From Home' trailers spin on to the web

Sony Pictures has shared two teasers trailer for Spider-Man: Far From Home, the much-anticipated follow up to 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Fans have been pestering Tom Holland for the first look footage for months now, and it was rumoured to be dropping just after the first teaser for Avengers: Endgame arrived, but it failed to materialise. Today the star revealed one of the trailer during a live stream on his Instagram account.

The international trailer can be watched above, while the domestic trailer can be found below. Both contain lots of different footage.

Both trailers show Jake Gyllenhaal in character as super-villain Mysterio for the first time, in this new film from Homecoming director Jon Watts.

The domestic trailer begins with Peter Parker doing a press conference with Marisa Tomei’s Aunt May and Jon Favreau’s Happy Hogan turns up to flirt with her. It then cuts to Peter packing for a school trip to Europe and him deliberately leaving his Spidey suit behind.

Cut to him with Michelle/MJ (Zendaya) and best pal Ned (Jacob Batalon) as they head to Venice, Italy, before later, in a Paris hotel room, Nick Fury knocks Ned out with a tranquilliser dart to recruit Spider-Man for a mission.

Both trailers end with Mysterio and Spider-Man fighting alongside one another to defeat Hydro-Man, (the actor’s name is still undisclosed) in London, begging the question of how much a villain Gyllenhaal’s character will actually be in the movie. His look stays pretty faithful to the classic comic book costume including the fishbowl helmet.

Now we’ve been given our first look at Spider-Man’s first screen outing since his appearance in Avengers: Infinity War, we’re still none-the-wiser as to when this sequel takes place. The presence of Peter Parker and Nick Fury, who were both turned to dust by Thanos in Infinity War, suggests this may be set before the events of that film, making it another prequel in the vein of Ant-Man and The Wasp.

There’s also a new poster for Far From Home which plays on the film’s globe-trotting themes. Passport stamps and touristy-stickers for Prague, Berlin, London, Venice, and the Swiss Alps are plastered over Spider-Man’s masks, suggesting they’ll be locations visited in the film.
