Out of this world: How to holiday in a UFO

A UFO has touched down in Somerset - and you're invited to spend the night in it (with no alien abduction, thankfully, required).

But this elliptical cabin, ringed by oval windows, is much more than just a quirky and Instagram-worthy place to book for a staycation - it's a chance to stay in a slice of iconic architecture.

Marston Park near Frome, in Somerset, is hosting visitors in a Futuro House. These modernist houses were created by Finnish architect Matti Suuronen as a rural holiday retreat, and their retro-futuristic design now exemplifies the 1960s pop culture zeitgeist.

Only 68 are known to still exist worldwide today, and most are in a severely dilapidated state. This house, however, has been lovingly restored by artist Craig Barnes over the course of almost an entire decade after he brought it back to the UK from South Africa.

In fact, this house is one of very few Futuro House which you can stay in worldwide. To give you an example of how popular it is, during summer 2018 it spent the summer in Le Havre, France and was visited by 30, 000 people (who could only stay in it for five minutes at a time).

It will be in Somerset until October, and there's currently still availability to sleep in it throughout the summer. Nevertheless, a stay in a slice of design history doesn't come cheap - a night costs between £400 and £1,200, depending on the date.

The house features one double bed and another 'flexible space' for two more people, and is set in its own picturesque glade with a view of a lake. There's also a hot shower, bathrobes, music speakers and an outdoor area with a fire pit - plus you'll also get access to Marston Park's bar, restaurant and other facilities.
