Stacey Solomon thought she'd had an accident when she had first period

Stacey Solomon has revealed she knew so little about menstruation that she thought she’d pooed herself when she had her first period.

The star, 31, opened up about her experience during a frank chat about periods and hormones on Loose Women.

Solomon – who is pregnant with her fourth child – said people need to be educated about what is happening to their bodies, and suggested girls were shown a used sanitary pad to help them to be prepared.

“When I started my period, I thought I pooed myself. That sounds so bad, because I just had no idea what on Earth it was,” she said.

“I did think, what have I done, like, how has this happened?”

The star, who recently shared that she keeps feeling angry during her current pregnancy, told her fellow panelists that having more education around hormones and hormone changes, in both women and men, would be very helpful to children.

Viewers applauded the TV star’s attitude.

“You are amazing,” gushed one fan, while another posted: “Please push this women’s health agenda…. My daughter couldn’t talk to me about what sanitary wear she needed at 12.. (Long story) She actually ran off down the aisle in Tesco... totally agree with Stacey’s, ‘Show 'em a dirty pad. This is what’ll be in your knickers’.”

Solomon announced last month that she and her fiancé Joe Swash were expecting their second child together after suffering miscarriages.

The couple already share two-year-old son Rex and Solomon is mum to sons Zachary and Leighton from previous relationships.

She later confirmed that she and Swash are expecting a baby girl.
